Hmm...I have been using speedfan to check my temps, and its been pretty good...no problems really...when i got home from work today, I noticed that the temps for CPU and System were WAYYY off...especially since i am running air cooling...
Image

*Edit

BIOS is reading same as speed fan...(speed fan reads from BIOS i know)

Asus Pc-Probe (Its CRAP I Know...) Reads really BAD!!

Image

*Edit2
Core temps read normal as always..39-40 on both...

I would say the Temp Probe is gone....

Latest BIOS installed...

Not gonna bother with another edit...

i was just playing with speedfan and the funny thing is...if i hit configure, and uncheck cpu and sys....hit okay...then go back to configure and check them off it will display the proper temps (39C for cpu, 36 sys) for about 2 seconds...then goes back to -99c and -36c....

has anyone ever had this problem...HELP!

HWMonitor reading cpu right @ 36C

Who cares. Your not even OC'd.

lol...

E8400's have problems with their temp diodes(sp?). Since your SS's say your at 3 Ghz. Don't worry about it.

Shouldn't have that even installed if your not OCing. And if you are.. deal with it. Intel clocks CPU's at stock where they are for a reason. It's agood spot not to burn out in the worst of conditions.

I wasnt concerned about the cpu burning up..not at all, my concern was that it was the motherboard was on the brink of death...and now that i am not bottlenecked by my GPU..i will be ocing...so ensuring i have as close a temperature reading as possible is very important...I have read that all temp monitors use a formula of DTS-TjMax to form the core temps. My question is...whats the Throttle speed (TjMax) of the e8400 series...is it 105C or 95C? 105 gives me an idle of 41-40 on cores...while 95C gives me 31-30 on the cores....

I've always checked the temps on any system I've built, for myself or others, regardless of whether I'm overclocking or not. Just because you're not putting additional voltage through a chip doesn't mean that it might not be making good contact with the heat sink or some other heat related issue. Usually I just check the BIOS on the first POST and then after stressing it a little but I don't think having a program like that to check once in a while is that bad of an idea personally.

Overclocking these bad boys won't make my life run any faster. That and I like having computer parts around for at least a few years. If I was actually into CPU intensive shit like video editing or DVD ripping yeah I would O/C. And even then my hard drive would still be a bottleneck so I'd have some raptors jumping aroung. It's not all about the CPU.
