Post subject:  over clocking question
2 questions for you guys. can a asus 8500 gt pcie be over clocked?
also can how can i go about oc;ing my amd64x2 4200 processor.
my main board is a asus a8v xe
i dont even know if its set up rite now. i just bought all the parts, put it togather and it worked. so i didnt think i had anything leftto do. anyhelp would be awsome

Yes, use Rivatuner. Take the core up in small increments, say 10 or 5 MHZ, benching after each change and watching for artifacts (3DMark firefly is the best I've seen for this) Once you start artifacting, back it off 10MHz, then do the same for the RAM and shader clock.

Drop your HTT multi to 3x
Drop your memory divider as low as it goes
lock the PCI clock at 33
lock the CPU multi
slowly start upping your FSB
you can also drop your CPU multi by one to determine your MAX FSB
You can then start upping your memory divider and HTT multi.

I use SuperPi for a quick stability test, but if your looking for a 24/7 OC, it would be best to run something which loads it down a bit more like Prime95 or Orthos. Running Memtest86 is also a good idea. Keep a eye on your temperatures :wink:

also with the cpu over clock your talkin about these settings in the bios rite?
also i got riviatuner but i cant seem to find anythign about changeing the clock speed.

ok im ready to over clock. i got a artic freezer 64 pro today and a zalaman vga cooler, best they had at mysterybyte. im told half the battle with oc'ing is the ram..

ok now when i look thru my bios throughly i cant find htt multiplier did u mean cpu mulit. if so the lowest it can go 4x
also its set to 200mhz rite now

ok i figured out riva tuner. im just downloading 3dmark trial.
there is a app for these cards i found out. asus smart doc

ok so i got the asus smart doc workinng. it has its own test program.
so far i got the engine up to 512mhz the shader clock to 1024mhz and the memory clock at 664 mhz

totally maxed out now and without any artifacting
engine 559 mhz
shader 1618 mhz
memory 664 mhz

if u really wnat to push the limits, then you have to get an after market cooler. and than start uppsing the voltage...this may not do alot depending on the chip but it is an option...as for temp i have no clue...i have beeen outta the market for awhile
