Ok so when I got my 8800GT, it ran really hot on idle, about 58-60c and 78-79 full load. I have been told the 8800GT's run hot, so I thought this was normal. To be asfe I kept all clocks @ stock. Tonight I checked my temp for probably the first time in a month, and its sitting idle at 49c. This seemed really really low for an 8800GT, but since I was getting these temps, I figured I'd up the clocks a bit. Stock clocks: 600/1500/900 70c full load First overclock: 675/1691/1000 72c full load So I said screw it lets push it real high. 750/1879/1025 75c full load. No problems, no artifacts. What the hell? Maybe cause it's cold in the winter and I'm in a basement. I'm experiencing anywhere from a 5-10fps increase in most games. I figure without my CPU bottleneck it would be even more. Either way I'm not complaining, just thought it was odd that I could push it so high without any problems. |

You can clock them higher at a lower temp. I cant recall my numbers because i havent had a 8800gt in ages now. But the temp is high for that clock I would say. But I could have had a good batch of cards over time. |

I pushed it to its limits today. Crysis + HD video in the background. That did it. Oddly enough it did not fail until 87c, at which point I was a little nervous obviously. Clocks back down to 675/1691/1000 running 66-70c full load. Still getting decent performance improvements. I'll be so much happier when I upgrade this CPU (couple weeks) |
