So I have had my P5K-E for some time now. During boxing day I upgraded my storage on it. I pulled out all of my drives except my 500gig and then installed an OCZ Vertex 2 120 and the 2 x Seagate 1TB drives (in RAID 0). Lately I have been getting notice that the array is constantly rebuilding itself. Then in the last few days it told me that both drives were offline. After resetting the BIOS SATA config it found both drives again. Then after a reboot it told me that one drive was offline. So I removed that drive and rebooted and it said I had a degraded array. I shut down and reconnected that drive and it then told me that the other one was offline. The next thing I know it can't see my OCZ drive either. After a few more resets it found the drive again but it is still showing one Seagate as not working (but it switches between which one). I tried updating the BIOS but that didn't do squat. Any suggestions? I'd love to do a full system upgrade but I'm going to be getting violated on my taxes this year from my severance package (I'm estimating between $6000-8000 to pay back) so I don't know if that will be an option. Plus I really want to upgrade to the UEFI BIOS if I'm going to and that doesn't seem to work now anyways lol. |

run hd tune or another program that will check the smart staus of the drives, i recently had a similar eevnt ( SSD went offline completely) after getting it to boot and runnign a smart diag found out it was a dieing sata cable. worth a shot ne ways. |

Yeah, definately want to test the drives thoroughly. Use Seatools if it's a seagate drive and it will fix most errors for you it will at least thoroughly test your non seagate drives as well. Do you have a spare raid controller you can test with too? |

I'll try swapping cables. As far as seatools goes, it will not detect my seagate drives as they are in a RAID setup. So I may pull them and test them through a sata-usb adapter and see if that works. And I don't have a spare RAID controller unfortnately. |

I'm going to work on this tonight but I thought I remembered another post that was similar to this. Turns out I was right. http://www.mysterybyte.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2658 Except that was a P5K and mine is the P5K-E. |

So Seatools tells me that all tests are unavailable on all of my drives. And when I woke up this morning my system had rebooted itself. Any thoughts? Or does anyone know of any other decent disk checking software? I will try the WD version tonight and see how that works out. |

hdtune is good also. At work I have licensed copies of PC Doctor and Eurosoft's PC Check (awesome software). PC Check is very thorough with disk testing. |

So I tested the seagate drive that was showing as failed and my system won't pick it up even connected though a sata-usb converter. So I think that one is dead. I spins up but that is it. The other drives tested just fine. However, when I restarted my system after I pulled the drive it stopped seeing my OCZ one again. I shut down, waited another minute and turned it back on and there was my drive again. So I think I'm losing my board and my drive all at the same time. Awesome. At least the drive is still under warranty. |

Phonix wrote: Did you trying clearing the RTC? Never know... Just to confirm, you are referring to the real time clock? If so no I haven't tried that yet. On another note. I brought the "Failed" drive into work with me today and plugged it into a better usb-sata adapter than I had at home and so far it has passed 2 seatools tests. I'm now running a long DST test in seatools on it and if it passes that I know that my board is the issue now. That will teach me to buy a cheap adapter for home lol. |
