I've done this over and over again.. It doesn't happen to my girlfriends laptop, my desktop or any of my friends computers... If I manually shutdown my laptop by holding the button vista will boot up with all of the recovery stuff.. I have to wait a good 10-15minutes.. Thats fine. Then it asks me if i'd like to boot into safe mode.. w/ networking, normal, last known settings... etc... Any one of those I click will get me an error afterwards saying something like x000455 registry cannot boot blah blah blah. Tells me to insert the vista disc and I do and try recoveries.. It then tells me Its not the proper disc and i need to have the proper disc . ( I have a legitiment copy and i used that very copy to install it so WTF?). Thats when I have to bite the bullet and reinstall and hope vista stores all my files in the folder it says it will (windows.old). This is getting really annoying to have to work around each time... anyone have any ideas or should I take it in somewhere and get them to look at it ? Was custom built by Sager Laptops in the US. |

Sounds to me like you should refrain from shutting down the laptop by this method. What does the bios or the power settings in windows show for pressing the power button? The power button might not be assigned power off. |

Its assigned to power off.. but the bios interface isnt nearly as versatile as my desktops. Im guessing because its the companys signature? |

Definitely start shutting down your laptop by clicking shut down and don't close the lid on it either until it has finished. When you manually shut down like you are doing your OS isn't getting a chance to finish processes that it is working on and we all know how Vista likes doing/downloading things in the background while hiding it from the user. I'm sure if something was in process while you did this then it would have a hell of a time starting up after that and could explain the long boot times and general errors you started getting. |

with my lap on vista i make sure that it shuts down fully before i close the lid. cause ive had some similar problems. |

okay then atleast its just not me... I just found it weird my desktop is vista as well and I can shut it off manually... Then again all along I've noticed that vista reacts different on laptops opposed to desktop.. odd |

hell my laptop ran out of battery one day, and i went to plug in the power adapter and vista would not boot or repair itself. i agree its retarded on laptops. my desktop runs just fine with it |
