Okay, I am getting back into computers and gaming etc.. as some of you know..I am looking to upgrade in the near future and am looking at cpu & motherboard combos this is what i am looking at purchasing... INTEL Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz 1333MHz 4MB LGA775 CPU Kingston KHX8500D2K2/2G PC8500 2GB Kit 1066MHz 5-5-5-12 Recertified) ASUS P5K P35, HeatPipe, 1394, 4DDR2, should i be getting memory rated for 1333mhz to wutilize the 1333mhz FSb of the Core2 or should i just try overclocking the kingston? as well has anyone had any expirence with the E6550...i definatly want the 4mb cache i think this will give me the best price/performance thoughts or suggestions... p.s. i am kicking my self in the ass for buying a 8500gt...shoudl ahve waited and got a 8800gt.. ![]() |

I've never used higher end Kingston ram, but yeah it should be fine. One thing to keep in mind with an intel chipset is that unlike AMD procs (or intel with Nvidia chipsets) you can't set a memory/FSB ratio lower than 1:1 so if you manage to push your FSB to 500 (a worthy goal, but not normally achievable) the lowest you'll be able to run your memory at is 2XFSB=1000. Not a big deal for you as you are already planning on getting 1066 memory which will give you plenty of headroom, but thinking they can get away with DDR2 800 when they want to OC is a common mistake for folks who haven't run intel chips in a while. |

never run an intel in my life, so i definatly look forward to toying with one... its been awhile since i have done anything with overclocking, so i will take it easy when the time comes, however i did get my AMD 3000+ (1.8ghz) to 2.4ghz on air...which i didnt think was too bad..i definatly could have got more if i had the proper memory i was running generic kingston memory... |

i have a intel q6600go 1333 fsb running at 3.33 ghz, 1480 fsb i beleve. on air. im useing cheep ddr2 800 supertalent kits. no problems comptuer has been on for over 1 week str8 no heat issues or anything. so i think 800 mhz ram would be just as sufficant. buuuut if ya got the extra cash go for 1066. |
